Sometimes I get to hear about the success my clients see after a story consult. This satirical sci-fi screenplay has been especially fun to follow.
Flax Glor is a writer, producer, and director; author of two books on filmmaking; a film instructor at Clatsop Community College; and a script analyst for Coverfly.
But even with all that skill and experience, it can be valuable to get a second set of eyes on your projects.
So Flax asked me to give his sci-fi script “Globulus” a look.
“After being infected with an alien microbe, a disgraced reporter is forced to confront some terrible truths about himself or risk transforming into an orange amorphous monstrosity that threatens all life on Earth.”
I spent some time reading the screenplay, and provided Flax with my thoughts. I put more than 125 notes in the screenplay doc, and delivered a five-page document with deeper discussion of themes, tone, plot, characters, description, and formatting.
Since then, the script has gone on to be a Quarterfinalist at the Atlanta Film Festival Screenplay Competition, and landed in the Top 10% at Coverfly. Results are pending on several other competitions, and we’ll keep you posted.
